The Catalog and Bill of Materials in QuantX Ops
One place for what you sell and what you buy, with rates that propagate — so a price revision does not live in one person's spreadsheet.
Every company has a rate list. In most of them it exists in four versions, and the one being quoted from is whichever the estimator happened to open.
One master, used everywhere
Items and services live once. Estimates price from them, purchase orders order them, stock holds them, and invoices bill them. A rate revised in the catalogue is revised everywhere it is subsequently used — and, importantly, not retrospectively in documents already issued, which would rewrite agreed prices.
Units that convert
A unit-of-measure master with conversion factors means you can buy in one unit and issue in another — a coil bought by weight and issued by length — without somebody doing the arithmetic on paper and getting it wrong at 6pm.
Bills of material
A BOM assembles items into a thing you sell. Priced, it becomes the basis of an estimate line; exploded, it becomes the basis of an indent. That is the link between "we won this job" and "here is what we need to buy", which is otherwise a manual translation performed under time pressure.
