Interior design and KBB in GstarBIM

This is the half of GstarBIM that most BIM tools treat as an afterthought. Interiors are modelled parametrically — furniture, tiling, lighting, ceilings — and the same model produces the visualisation, the material list and the quantities.

GstarBIM Interior design

Room maker and parametric interiors

Doors, windows, curtains, electrical fixtures, skirting, wall and floor tiling and artwork are placed as parametric elements, so layouts can be adjusted late without the model falling apart. Materials, colours and lighting simulate in real time, and the same project outputs design data, material lists and cost estimates.

Tiling that calculates its own waste

Tiling tools work out the pattern and optimise grout lines to reduce offcuts, with quantity take-off built in. On a fit-out where tile is a material line that genuinely moves the budget, taking the quantity off the model rather than estimating from a drawing is the difference between ordering right and ordering twice.

Lighting with real photometric data

Fixtures place parametrically, IES photometric files import, and light sources adjust across multiple parameters. Lighting simulation runs on the actual IES data, so a lighting layout can be justified rather than eyeballed.

KBB: cabinets, cutting lists and bills of materials

Cabinet design is fully parametric — door panel types combine freely, including curved cabinets with matching countertops and skirting. Standard cabinets are reusable across projects, and the model generates breakdown views, cutting lists and bills of materials for the workshop. Smart Object Parts and assembly cover upholstered and bespoke furniture.

  • Reusable standard cabinets plus full customisation where a job needs it
  • Automatic breakdown views, cutting lists and BOMs
  • AL Warehouse and Trimble 3D Warehouse components available directly
  • Component import and batch export across .skp, .rfa, .3ds and 50+ formats
FAQ

Common questions

Is GstarBIM suitable for a pure interiors practice?

Yes. Interior design is a first-class part of the product rather than a bolt-on — room-level parametric design, tiling, lighting, ceilings and KBB cabinet design all work from the same model that produces your drawings and renders.

Does it produce cutting lists for a joinery workshop?

Yes. Cabinet designs generate breakdown views, cutting lists and bills of materials automatically, so what the workshop builds comes from the same model the client approved.

Can we use our existing SketchUp furniture library?

Yes — .skp imports directly, as do .rfa and .3ds, and the integrated AL Warehouse and Trimble 3D Warehouse give you components without leaving the software.
