Formats, IFC and openBIM
A BIM tool is only as useful as the files it can take in and hand back. GstarBIM is DWG-native and buildingSMART-certified, which means it fits into a project where everyone else is on something different — which, in India, is every project.
What it reads and writes
Over 50 formats are supported across import, export and linking. Linked files stay connected rather than being pasted in, so an updated consultant model refreshes instead of needing to be re-imported.
- Import — DWG, DXF, 3DS, SKP, FBX, IFC, RFA, RVT, PDF, JPG, PLY, E57, RCP
- Export — DWG, IFC, RVT, PDF, PDF3D, SKP, FBX, OBJ, JPG
- Linked — DWG, DXF, IFC, RVT, PDF, PLY, E57, RCP
openBIM, properly certified
GstarBIM holds buildingSMART certification for IFC 2x3 import and export, and supports IFC 4.x in both directions. It integrates buildingSMART's bSDD data dictionary service, so property names and classifications survive the handover instead of arriving as free text that someone has to re-map.
Working alongside Revit
RVT and RFA import directly, and the 2027 release organises imported Revit family elements into variants automatically, which makes type handling considerably cleaner. GstarBIM 2027 also connects to Autodesk Construction Cloud, so projects on a client-mandated CDE can be browsed, downloaded and uploaded without leaving the software.
Common questions
Is GstarBIM openBIM certified?
Yes. It is buildingSMART-certified for IFC 2x3 import and export, supports IFC 4.x in both directions, and integrates the bSDD data dictionary so classifications and properties transfer cleanly.
Can we exchange files with consultants who use Revit?
Yes. RVT and RFA import directly, IFC works in both directions, and GstarBIM 2027 connects to Autodesk Construction Cloud for projects run on that CDE.
Will our existing DWG library still work?
GstarBIM is DWG-native, so your drawing library opens and edits directly rather than going through a conversion that loses fidelity.
Try it on your own project
A 30-day trial, a quote in rupees, or a conversation about whether GstarBIM fits how you work — whichever is useful.
